Seek Out Peaceful People

What do all peaceful people have in common? Twinkly eyes. These rare gems embody a lightness of being. They carry deep wisdom, are direct, could care less what anyone thinks of them and are hilarious. I have found that peace filled people are usually our elders. I seek them out and spend time with them regularly. Last month, my 91 year old twinkly eye friend and I were catching up. Feeling anxious, she shared the best piece of advice I have received so far. It brought me immediate inner peace that has lasted. It deserves sharing as we could all use more inner peace right now.

Best Advice for Inner Peace

Picture a river where you are in your own boat. I asked, "I have been rowing downstream. I turned my boat around and no longer row up stream. I'm not holding onto the branches along the sides. I am letting go. Why aren't things happening? I have been asking the Universe for clear direction, for signs, and nothing! I keep getting redirected. Over and over again. It's exhausting. What am I suppose to do?"

And right on queue, Twinkly Eyes shared, "Sally, why don't you stop rowing, take the oars out of the water and place them inside your boat. Let the river take you down stream."

Is Feeling Inner Peace that Easy?

Was she asking me to go with the flow? It's not natural for me to go with the flow. It feels too easy! Isn't life supposed to be hard? As soon as she shared that I could stop rowing, I felt myself exhale. Do you feel your shoulders relax and inner calm return too? Is it that easy? Just take your oars, out of the water, put them inside your boat and allow the river to take you downstream. Go with the flow? Let go of the branches? Enjoy the ride? Aren't we supposed to row row row our boats gently down the stream? She suggested that I go merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Life is but a dream. So far its been working.

The Take Away

When you find yourself going up stream, holding onto the branches, or struggling downstream, just take your oars out of the water and put them inside your boat. Trust the river will take you to where you are meant to be. Stay in the flow.
