One Must-Know Fashion Tip

There is one fashion tip I have used my entire career.

Proportion.

More specifically, the rule of thirds.

The idea is simple. The eye likes balance. In fashion, interiors, art, and architecture, things

usually look better when they are not cut exactly in half.

One third on top. Two thirds on the bottom.

Two thirds on top. One third on the bottom.

That is where the magic is.

I am 5’4”, and if I wear a long tunic over long pants, it does not do me any favors. It cuts me in half. The whole thing starts to look squat, and then I wonder why I suddenly feel off.

But if I wear a shorter top with a higher-waisted jean, everything changes.

Same body.

Different proportion.

That is the part I want you to remember.

So often, we try something on and immediately turn on ourselves.

Before you decide your body is the problem, look at where the clothes are hitting you.

A shorter jacket can make the leg look longer. A higher waist can change the whole line. A long coat can work beautifully with a shorter dress underneath.

This is why I usually look better in a cropped jacket or a moto jacket than a traditional blazer.

Not because the blazer is wrong.Because on me, the proportion is wrong. It cuts me in half.

I used this in every fitting and every fashion show.

My eye was always looking for balance.

And once you start seeing it, you cannot unsee it.

The next time you shop your closet, try this.

Put on something that does not feel quite right and notice where it stops on your body.

Is it cutting you in half?

Do not make it mean anything about you.

Just adjust.

Tuck the shirt.

Try a different jacket.

Fashion should not be one more place where we punish ourselves.

It should help us see ourselves more clearly.

And I think life works this way too.

We can spend years thinking we are the problem when what we really need is a better fit.

One small shift can change how everything feels.

That is what I mean when I talk about designing a life that fits.

The fitting room isn't about fitting in—it's about making sure what we choose fits us.

Sally’s Weekly Reminder

“I let go of what no longer fits. I am free.”Take out it's about proportion. One small shift, and everything changes.

Keep this

Throughout my career, I've answered one question over and over: "How do I feel confident and empowered when I don't feel confident?" That question is why I wrote this book.
